Mr. Kevin Brentnall

East Brook Middle School serves approximately 650 students in grades 5 through 8.    Middle School is a time when students are experiencing many social, emotional, and physical changes in their lives.   The rigorous academic and social adjustments can become overwhelming.   Therefore, the East Brook environment needs to be sensitive to these changes.    The staff here at East Brook understands these challenges and the importance of educating the whole child.   With the cooperation of our parents, we can insure every child a successful experience.

Since joining the East Brook community, I have had the pleasure to work with both staff and parents who have demonstrated a commitment to provide a quality education to all students.   Our goal is to continue to address the six components that successful middle schools provide for the education of young adolescents as outlined in the National Middle School Association’s position paper, “This We Believe: Successful Schools for Young Adolescents.”    Curriculum will be relevant, teaching approaches will meet the diverse learning styles of students, varied assessments will ensure that all students experience success, teaming will continue and students’ social and health needs will be met in conjunction with a strong student advocacy and guidance program.

These are the guidelines that we worked towards when creating our new middle school program for this school year.   I truly believe that we have been able to make an already outstanding school, even better.

As we move forward, I expect that East Brook continue to be a positive place to be and that we work together to make it the best school possible for your children.    This year, you can expect your child to be challenged to think more critically and to use technology to enhance learning.    Students will be reading and writing everyday, and in all content areas.    Teachers will implement test taking strategies to help students perform well on standardized tests.    They will engage students through problem-based activities and assess them in an authentic manner.

I am confident that together, through the nurturing and support received at home and school, we can make our children successful. I welcome you as partners in the educational process.

“Students need us, not because we have all the answers, but because we can help them discover the right questions.”    Robert Fried
